The Importance of Pot Transplantation

Sometimes it is thought that, when buying a plant, it can stay in the same pot for a long period of time. Nevertheless, it is necessary to leave behind this thought and to begin to consider that if a transplant is not carried out, the plant can be lost in a short time.

It has been demonstrated that in order to benefit the roots of the plants, it is necessary to carry out pot transplants periodically. Our main byrcus cosejo to carry out this task, is to use fertile substrate, with good drainage and disinfected. Generally, the change is made when the pot has become too small and the soil is no longer useful because it has few nutrients for the proper development of the plant.

Aspects to take into account when transplanting from one pot to another

In the first place, it must be considered that the plant that will be changed of flowerpot must not be in process of growth or flowering. That is to say, for the procedure to be a success, the vegetative state must be taken advantage of so that the plants do not suffer with the change.

Follow our byrcus cosejo and acquire a flowerpot that has the appropriate size and that is perforated in the base so that the water drains perfectly. In addition, it is very important in the procedure to use a suitable soil that prevents the development of fungi and other organisms harmful to plants.

If, when the plant is taken out of the pot, it has a mass of roots entangled in the soil, it is because the container is not the correct size, so it will have to be changed for another one.

How to change potted plants

Here you will find the best advice for transplanting into a more suitable pot. To remove the plant from the old pot, hold the pot upside down, tapping the base of the pot. Once the whole root ball has come out, it can be conditioned in the new pot that has been chosen.

It is advisable to transplant in a shady place so that the roots are not affected by direct sunlight. For greater protection, it is advisable to cover the roots with newspaper while the pot transplant is being carried out.

Once the plant is in the pot, fill the remaining hole with the substrate mixture. It is necessary to avoid that the soil creates spaces with air and also to water abundantly after the transplant so as not to suffer dehydration.

We already have the plant ready to return to its usual place. Plants that normally need sunlight should be shaded for at least a week.

Tips on flowerpots

The containers usually used for transplanting are generally terracotta, a porous reddish-blue clay. However, when a plant is purchased in any trade it is most likely to be in a plastic pot. In this case, it is advisable to change the pot to avoid asphyxiation of the roots, especially if they are very delicate species.

The reason why florists provide plants in plastic pots is none other than to encourage radiation so that they take root more quickly. In spite of this, it is always advisable to change the plastic containers for others of different materials once the plant has been acquired.

The pots must have holes in the base for the water to come out of the irrigation. If you want to keep your garden or terrace cleaner and more organized, it is advisable to place a small water collection dish under the plant.
